Abstract

The contemporary secondary school is designed to prepare young people for active living. The key dimension of such preparation is the acquisition of useful knowledge by all adolescents and facilitated by various social and professional integrations. The educational functions of career education in secondary school are realized through the structure of the curriculum. Career education in secondary school can be considered as: a universal function in the curriculum, i.e. to be simultaneously outlined in the whole curriculum; a separate function of the curriculum, i.e. to be one of the different functions of the curriculum in its entirety; function of individual contents, i.e. to be served specifically by certain contents. From this point of viewhere are three different types of career education programs in school practice: axial, basicand connecting. Each of them outlines and classifies the content of career education in a different way in the secondary school curriculum (Watts and all., 1996). The three types of career education programs are not mutually exclusive. Different combinations may be appropriate for different stages of schooling.. Тhe inclusion of career education programs in the secondary school curriculum makes vocational guidance an integral part of the educational process. It removes the traditional notion that the activity of supporting the career development of the individual is an additional imported or sewn element of school preparation.
