A CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF THE CATEGORY OF GENDER IN ENGLISH AND ALBANIAN NOUNS
Albanian is an inflected/synthetic language which means that it indicates the relation of words in a sentence particularly through inflections, while English language is analytical language, which means that it indicates the relation of words in a sentence by using word order and significant use of prepositions or auxiliary verbs. So, as from the general viewpoint of two languages, it derives that there are considerable similarities and differences in all levels including level of morphology that represents the nucleus of every language. Gender is one of the grammatical categories of noun that differs from other categories; such are number, case, definitiveness and indefiniteness, since it is subjected to masculine, feminine and neuter forms. As we cited above, in contrary to the types on nouns where in English and Albanian have introduced similarities at the gender category of nouns. These two languages shows some similarities and some differences. In this study, there shall be briefly elaborated similarities, differences and correlation between gender category of nouns in Albanian and English language. There will be staged forward some typical rules of recognizing the noun genders as well as some exception to the same.
