Abstract

Incidence of metabolic syndrome (MS) is steadily increasing and encompasses ¼ of the adult population in the world. In Bulgaria, the incidence of MS is 30.8%. The main prerequisites for its development are disease processes in the body, hereditary predisposition and inappropriate lifestyle - low motor activity, poor nutrition and progressive weight gain. These patients have a 2-fold higher cardiovascular mortality and a 5-fold higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, which determines the great public importance of prophylaxis and rehabilitation of the metabolic syndrome. The methods of physical medicine - balneotherapy, climatotherapy and kinesitherapy combined with dietary regimen play an extremely important role in the prevention and rehabilitation of metabolic syndrome and the improvement of patients' quality of life. OBJECTIVE of the present study is a study of the effectiveness of a complex rehabilitation program of peloid therapy, water treatment, kynesitherapy, diet and education sessions in patients with metabolic syndrome in Pomorie. The aim of therapeutic education is to help the patient to achieve the required changes in lifestyle and health related behaviours by improving his knowledge, skills and motivation. Daily lectures on illness, motor regimen, mud treatment and diet were included in the patients. As a result of the 20 day rehabilitation course against the backdrop of the daily lectures, positive results of the traceability indicators were found in the patients. Blood pressure and pulse rate showed normalization of the values. The clinical-laboratory performance of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism also showed positive dynamics. Blood sugar in fasting decreased reliably from 8.34 to 5.27 mmol / l, P <0.05. Triglycerides from 1.83mmol / l to 1.68mmol / l, p <0.05. HDL-cholesterol dynamics of 3.9mmol / l at 3.2mmol / l, p <0.05. All patients had a body weight reduction at the end of the program of 92.4 +/- 6.3 kg. Of 86.7 +/- 5.7 kg, P & lt; 0.05.The training lectures performed during the rehabilitation course contribute to increasing the motivation to change the lifestyle is of paramount importance for improving the quality of life of patients with metabolic syndrome. The stay of these patients in rehabilitation and SPA centers is extremely suitable for conducting training by various specialists on the current problems of this disease.
