Abstract

Balneotherapy in Bulgaria has long traditions and opportunities. In Bulgaria there are over 240 deposits with mineral waters and deposits with healing mud with diverse physico-chemical composition and different applications in a number of diseases. In our most famous balneological resorts there are specialized hospitals for rehabilitation, balneohotels and SPA hotels. Advances in Internet technology and the availability of mobile connections in most homes and workplaces have significantly increased the possibilities for counseling, including balneotherapy. The use of telemedicine has become particularly relevant in recent months of isolation due to the danger of Covid-19.
The aim of the present work is to study the possibilities for application of teleconsultations in the field of balneotherapy, as well as the application of mineral waters and peloids for recovery of patients with Covid-19.
The great variety of mineral waters in Bulgaria requires the refinement of the patients' referral to a given balneological resort, according to its disease and condition. The main diseases indicated for balneotherapy are diseases of the musculoskeletal system, peripheral and central nervous system, reproductive system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, digestive system. Post-covid syndrome has been added to these groups in the last year. Telemedicine offers a safe and effective alternative to traditional methods, especially during emergencies such as those observed with COVID-19, when precautions must be taken to prevent transmission of the disease.
Proper referral of patients to the appropriate spa resort and determination of the methodology of using mineral water and healing mud, taking into account both the patient's condition, stage of the disease and concomitant diseases are evil for maximum recovery. Teleconsultation in the field of balneotherapy will also support the work of physicians in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
