Abstract

This survey was conducted on a deliberate sample of 32 respondents, 16 karate competitors and 16 karate representatives, male, seniors (according to WKF) from the Republic of Macedonia. The main goal of this research was to determine the differences in psychological characteristics between karate competitors and karate representatives in a sports fight. In the research, a total of 13 variables were used to assess the psychological characteristics: one variable for assessing general intellectual abilities, three variables for assessing specific intellectual abilities, six variables for assessing emotional characteristics, and three variables for assessing motivational dispositions. For determining the basic statistical parameters, the basic descriptive statistics for the two groups of respondents were applied separately, while for the determination of the differences in the arithmetic means of the psychological characteristics, a T-test for small independent samples was applied. By analyzing the data from the basic descriptive statistical parameters of the psychological variables among the groups of respondents (competitors and representatives), it was concluded that all applied variables obtained homogeneity of the results as well as normal distribution, with very small deviations present in two variables. The results of the T - test obtained in the study show statistically significant differences in the entire analyzed space between the two groups, with the exception of two variables (L - social desire and P - psychotism), ie differences were found in 11 variables from a total of 13 studied variables.
