The present work considers basic problems of learning Bulgarian as a foreign language. The purpose is to describe and systematize the problems and find out ways to overcome them. A questionnaire was conducted in 10 groups at Medical University in Plovdiv. The quest is anonymous. Information on gender, age and nationality is required. The inquiry participated in total 131 students, 47% of whom are English, 21% - Greeks, 14% - Italians, 14% - Germans, 5% - Turks. Each group consists of 10 people and the maximum number of students per group is 14.Foreign students are not only from different nationalities, but also from different religions –Christians and Muslims. The learners speak at least two languages ( native language and English). Sometimes the students speak 3 or more languages. The questions in the poll are reduced to10 in number and they are translated into English. The polls are completed one month after the completion of the Bulgarian language course. For a typical problems can be defined the lack of motivation of students, the lack of time for preparation that is related to the school schedule, the large number of students in a group, the duration of practice( normally between 4-6 hours), the choice of appropriate textbook, the need of mobility. The overcome can be realized with using of new information, different methods, connecting to the modern academic education. Possible ways to overcome the difficulties are more communicative exercises, more practice and using visual materials. The results can be achieved with improving quality of work and converting information to knowledge. The European applicable is the aim of foreign language learning.
