In the modern literary studies, the theory of intertextuality is usually associated with postmodernism and is applied to the literature of this period. However, as a phenomenon, intertextuality is not limited, it is as old as literature is, hence it is an interesting possibility to look at the literature that dates back to postmodernism. In particular, this paper will try to show how the analysis of the works of Albanian literature before the postmodernism would result. In relation to what was said above, while analyzing a given literary text, it is almost impossible to discuss the allusions, the reminders that it opens, without mentioning the typologies, classifications or definitions of theoreticians that build on the theory of intertextuality.
Reading as re-writing opens up various subtleties that lead to memory, associating associations, combining motives, or creating a collage image. Determined typologies and concepts related to this theory often make the researcher to disclose of details that result in: highlighting paratextual notes; disclosure of implicit signals; consideration of the role of the reader; identification of hypo-text and hypertext, palimpsest; recording migration of myths; unconscious use of "intertextual techniques".
On the other hand, this theory applied to works of Albanian literature comes in the last three decades, not only over the literature of postmodernism, but also on the previous literary period. The examples of the literary periods before the postmodernism hinges on the practical claim that literature has its own intertextual character since its beginnings, while only the theory that names this phenomenon is later.
The paper has two main parts, the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part relies on the conclusions of theorists in the field of this theory on the most famous analyzes of the researchers who dealt with this theory and applied it to Albanian literature. The practical section will present examples based on typologies and classifications. The selection of the examples will be from the period of the first half of the 20th century. In this section, the questions to be answered will be related to: analyzes, conclusions or definitions on which the findings rely; the ways of viewing the text as open text; derivatives and new concepts that penetrate these considerations, illustrating dialogues between texts; quotation theory; reception and so on.
