Abstract

In recent decades, word formation has become a part of linguistics that studies the language system of language. The formant is considered the basic unit. Derivative words as formed by other words are motivated. The word formation of the present stage includes a description of the onomassiological categories and the onomassiological types, the word-forming meaning. There are productive and unproductive word-forming types. Productive word-types are productive, in the form of which new words are formed at the present stage, for example. through suffixes - axis, - tel, etc. Unproductive are word-types that do not form new words in the pattern - e.g. through the suffixes -it, -had, etc. It becomes clear that the productivity of word-types is a historical category. Morphological word formation as the main way of forming new words in the Bulgarian language has been studied in many ways. In particular, in affixation, the suffixal form of word-making occupies a central place and is the subject of older and newer, shorter and more extensive studies. The subject of the article is word formation with a suffix-eye that has not been given sufficient attention. The suffix-eye at the present stage is unproductive, but over a certain historical period it has obviously shown a certain degree of productivity. Cases of word formation meaning "male animals" are considered.
