Abstract

Bearing in mind that a gifted child is actually a child who has above-average abilities and specific
personality traits, it is important to include all education process participants in pedagogical activities so that the
development of these children goes in the right direction, and that the success is ensured.Unlike students with
developmental disabilities, students who are gifted receive their education in regular schools. Therefore, the question
can be raised as to whether the regular education system meets the needs of these children, whether it is able to
respond to their demands, and accordingly whether it is in line with children’s rights which are guaranteed by the
UN Convention on the Rights of the Child which specifies that the education process should be directed to the
development of the child's personality, as well as their physical and mental abilities to their fullest potential?
Giftedness is difficult to define in the terminological sense, which is why there are a many theories and definitions
of giftedness. Some of them, such as the one proposed by Pascal (B. Pascal), says that giftedness borders on
insanity, and as the author states, insanity is so widespread among geniuses that a man of common sense becomes
not normal among geniuses. However, most authors agree that giftedness is the potential for exceptional
development of certain abilities that will lead to undeniable success in the expression of talent. The biggest problem
regarding gifted students is how to identify them, how to work with them within the family, at school, and in leisure
time.Emotional bonds and relationships in the family are a safe path to the manifestation of giftedness, because safe
and happy babies are more persistent in trying to overcome obstacles and solve tasks that are more complex in the
later development period. In addition, strong emotional bonds affect the overall development of the child, i.e., the
intellectual, moral, professional, physical and aesthetic aspect. Given that gifted children learn faster, easier and
more efficiently than average children, a wider range of activities is needed than usual in school. For this purpose, it
is necessary to provide the right motivation, which should be diverse, and which will also encourage them to learn;
provide them with proper stimulating climate and learning materials, enable an individualized approach to learning,
and allow them to gain experience. Activities with gifted children should be based on individualized learning, which
is focused on students’ needs, and which requires a motivating learning environment.
