COMPETENCY-BASED LEARNING IN TECHNOLOGY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP BY APPLYING AN INTEGRATED STEM APPROACH

Abstract

In order for the modern individual to adapt to the new era and in order to be successful and effective, it is necessary to possess a broad spectrum of competencies.
The article aims to demonstrate how the application of a competency-based approach in the technology and entrepreneurship education, along with the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) concept, can develop the skills of successful persons in the 21st century.
Changes in pedagogical styles and methods are necessary, focusing on activating students' cognitive activities at the expense of reproductive knowledge. The methodological possibilities of utilizing STEM, in combination with active learning methods, are being explored to enhance the level of knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the students.
Шhe impact of the interactive educational environment is being monitored, using modern ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and applying an integrated STEM approach in technological education. Specialists in this field are directed towards creating a positive, stimulating, and supportive educational environment, based on STEM.
Concerning the learners, high professionalism and motivation are required, along with qualities such as tolerance, acceptance of differences, good communication, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution skills among participants in learning groups, high awareness, and a level of technological and information culture.
When studying topics in the curriculum of technology and entrepreneurship, a modular-integrative approach is recommended, involving experiential and hands-on learning gained during the educational process and practice.
Active teaching methods are applied to problem-solving, creating opportunities for the formation of real-life skills. Students' participation in activities with an entrepreneurial focus and in extracurricular activities would enhance learning outcomes, their activity, initiative, motivation for entrepreneurial activities, and contribute to their future career choices.
