ANALYSIS OF THE LEXICOGRAPHIC REPRESENTATION OF GERMAN LEXICAL UNITS CONTAINING THE SUFFIXOIDS –WEISE AND –MAßEN

This research focuses on the German lexical units containing the suffixes -weise and -maßen as representatives of an open, constantly evolving system occupying an exceptional position in the communication process.
The main goal is to trace their use, determined on the basis of a large digital corpus, and compare them with their representation in the most preferred monolingual and bilingual dictionaries, and carefully analyzing and summarizing the results.
The skilful combination of empirical and comparative methods, quantitative and qualitative analyses contributes significantly to a detailed study of the current lexicographical state and at the same time unequivocally shows the lack of uniform criteria for their selection and inclusion as separate lemmas, as well as the lack of a unified approach to their description in different sources.
The newly created bilingual German-Bulgarian dictionary, containing 732 of these lexical items with their most important features, has been proposed as one of the ways to overcome the existing deficit. It would be good if the more significant lexicographical editions are supplemented with the data from this study, so that the modern tendencies in the language development can be reflected in them.
