VITAMINS – A DIFFERENT METHODICAL APPROACH IN INTERDISCIPLINARY LESSON INCLUDED IN THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS OF SPECIALIZED PREPARATORY LANGUAGE COURSE
Keywords:
distance learning, face-to-face learning, vitamins, students from Language Preparatory CourseAbstract
Interdisciplinary lessons as a specific teaching method are part of the curriculum during the education of
students of the Language Preparatory Course at the Medical University of Plovdiv. The pandemic of the coronavirus
COVID-19 and the emergency situation throughout the world have led to the widespread application of virtual
online learning. Pupils, students and teachers from all levels of education had to adapt to the new conditions. The
way of teaching had to be radically changed with the introduction of new pedagogical methods and approaches.
Dynamic events have changed the way how biology and chemistry are taught to foreign students from the
Preparatory Course in the Department of Language and Specialized Training. The pandemic is now over. The world
is slowly returning to established ways of life, but it is difficult to predict what will happen in the near future. In
order to be prepared and react quickly and adequately to the ever-changing global conditions, we are developing the
new lessons in two versions: for distance learning and for face-to-face learning. The subject of the lesson in this
article is vitamins. They are extremely important organic compounds. Although in mw inimal quantities, vitamins
are absolutely necessary for the growth and development of the human organism and have a key role and a
significant contribution to the normal course of life processes. The topic is included in the curricula of biology and
chemistry, and the goal is that the new knowledge and terms obtained will serve as a basis during the studies in the
upper courses. During the lesson, special attention is paid to the classification, properties and functions of vitamins.
Teaching is tailored to the fact that students' vocabulary is not at a high level and specific terms are introduced
gradually. The Medical University provides a very good technical equipmentso the diagrams, pictures, videos and
presentations related to the lesson are easily accessible to the students, both during face-to-face lesson and distance
learning. We continue with the established practice of additional short discussions, interesting facts and events
related to the topic to keep the attention of the students in the subject and contribute to better learning of the
material
