Abstract

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are diseases of infectious etiology that occur as a result of medical care of the population during hospitalization, and can affect both patients and staff of the medical facility. This group of infections is a global problem of modern times, widely discussed in world medical practice. The importance of the problem in different aspects – medical, social, economic, political and legal determine the general efforts to improve the applied health public practice.
Both in the world and in Bulgaria, nosocomial infections (HAIs) represent a current problem of medical institutions for hospital care and are the cause of a large part of the pathological changes in hospitalized patients. The most common prerequisites for the occurrence and spread of infections associated with medical care are: the high density of the hospital population, a closed environment (diagnostic and therapeutic offices, hospital rooms), circulation of mainly conditionally pathogenic microorganisms (hospital strains characterized by polyresistance, high virulence and invasiveness), application of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, the antibiotic policy. The prevention and control of infections related to medical care must cover all units and functions of the medical facility and represent a single connected whole, ensuring a complex impact of the entire hospital team - diagnosis, registration and notification of HAIs, providing a hospital environment, according to modern requirements, compliance with the principles of asepsis and antiseptics, antimicrobial therapy, training and continuing qualification of medical staff on HAIs problems.
The present analysis summarizes data related to a study of the prevalence of nosocomial infections in medical facilities on the territory of the Ruse region in 2022. Their etiological and clinical structure, including injuries with sharp objects, have been studied. For the present analysis, data from the National Center for Public Health and Analysis, reports on reported and registered HAIs in the Regional Health Inspectorate - Ruse, as well as own observations were used.
