FUNCTIONAL RESULTS OF KINESITHERAPY AFTER ARTHROSCOPIC TREATMENT OF THE ELBOW
Keywords:

The elbow joint is a complex intermediate motor unit of the upper limb. Pathokinesiological changes in the elbow area become capable of occurring in traumas, joint pathologies, repetitive strain injuries and neurological injuries. With the deepening of anatomical knowledge and arthroscopic experience, the possibilities of the arthroscopic method of treatment for pathologies of the elbow joint are expanding. Complex kinesitherapy should be started early to achieve the maximum possible functional recovery. The aim of this report is to present a physical therapy program for functional recovery of patients after elbow arthroscopy. Material and methods: The pilot study included 5 patients, all after elbow arthroscopy. The average age of the patients was 30.8 years. Of these, one patient was female and four were male. To report the results of the kinesitherapy program, the following methods were used: goniometry, pain examination using the visual-analog scale and complex evaluation of the functional capabilities of the elbow joint using the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS). The duration of follow-up is 6 months. The specialized kinesitherapy program includes deep oscillation, cryotherapy, active and active-assisted exercises, Thera band and Flex Bar exercises, mobilization techniques, PNF exercises and techniques, kinesio taping applications, activities of daily living and underwater gymnastics. The results of the study show a full functional recovery of the patients and their return to work and sports activities. The comprehensive evaluation of the functional capabilities of the elbow joint through the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS) at the end of the 6th month shows excellent results. Conclusion: The results of our study prove the effectiveness of the kinesitherapy program we developed and support the claim that the early inclusion of specialized individual physiotherapy, according to the surgeon's recommendations, gives excellent functional results.
