Abstract

The object which follows the purpose with its shape is functional (i.e. a carpet that invites us to lie on it with its shape and design, alone or in company). Ergonomics is a modern science (work science) whose task is to investigate the human organism and behavior, and provides data on the adaptation of objects with which a person comes into contact. Modern industrial design places an equally important requirement that the shape of the object must correspond to the properties of the material from which it is built. Therefore, respect of the material is one of the necessary conditions for good design. The shape that is harmonized with the properties of the material will be suitable for it’s purpose, and at the same time it will emphasize the properties of the material. Fabrics should always create a new harmony of colors and motifs. Technology and production method are unavoidable factors in textile design, as well as mastery of certain techniques such as weaving, knitting, painting on textiles, printing, sewing, embroidery... A careful combination of artistic art experience, techniques and technology creates fabric as a kind of art product - a work of art, new and different even after 5000 years of its existence. It is the latter that proves the broadcasting of inspirations that textiles offer us as a material and a field of study. It started with the question "what kind of carpets do we like and what patterns on them", "silk interwoven with golden threads", or "African motifs", "orient", "what kind of material would you look at on the street or stop by the shop window". With the synergy of technology, production and quality with idea, form and passion, ideas grew and transformed artistically and then practically. Carpet sketches are inspired by a combination of modern clarity and traditional handmade. Colors and dimensions are suggested, but can be customized to customer needs. The peculiarity of the carpet sketches is achieved by the game of notching and the heights of the flora, which makes the one-color carpet a multicolored object due to the shadows. It strives to develop through unique and serial products produced by the Serbian industry, as a forerunner of the future Serbian brand. This work is a step forward, i.e. a step back to the memories of old, forgotten crafts. The technique of oriental carpets production is one of those crafts, so by returning to the roots or the beginnings of making textile products in Serbia, we are trying to bring back concepts such as ornamentation and preservation of cultural heritage. The aim of this work was to apply the technique of oriental rugs production in laboratory conditions through the practical production of samples. Samples of hand-woven carpets were made on a horizontal loom.
