Over the last thirty years a growing interest in the problems and development of entrepreneurship and in particular women entrepreneurship is observed. There are women entrepreneurs in all countries and their contribution to the global economy has a huge impact. This phenomenon is not limited to managing small businesses and businesses that are run from home. Their ventures now include companies that generate millions, and their numbers are growing steadily over the years. Studies reveal that the main factor for the ever-growing number of women entrepreneurs is the created equal opportunities for acquiring knowledge, experience and talent in the context of globalization. More and more women are entering the labor market, becoming a workforce and successfully performing in a number of sectors of the economy such as trade, consulting, education and other services. Thus, their contribution to the economic development of the countries increases significantly. Through a research among women entrepreneurs from the USA and Bulgaria, the study aims to find similar and distinguishing characteristics of women entrepreneurs operating in the two countries and raises the need of concrete public policies for women entrepreneurship in Bulgaria.
