EXPANSION OF DIGITAL ECONOMY AND ITS IMPACT ON PERSONALIZATION OF EDUCATION

Abstract

The expansion of innovation and the rapid changes that are taking place in information technology largely
determine the conditions and desires in the labor market. Changes in the labor market primarily lead to the
endangerment of those occupations that are related to performing simpler tasks. Traditional jobs known in France as
„metro, work, sleep”, in the United States „from 9 am to 5 pm“, or in Japan „lady clerk/salary worker“ can be less
and less „tackled“ with the pressures and demands of Industry 4.0. Namely, it is evident that there is a trend of
reallocation of the workforce directed towards jobs that are not greatly influenced by the automation process. The
development of information and communication technologies also affects the development of the digital sector,
whose main characteristic is the transmission of information by digital means. It is this development of the digital
sector that leads to more visible differences between the post-capitalist society and the knowledge-based society and
the new economy. In the era of digital economy, jobs that are flexible, but at the same time non-standard, are
recording permanent growth. Namely, the process of digital work implies the acquisition of IT skills that are
mastered through non-formal educational channels. Informal acquisition of skills and their mastery is recommended
when formal education does not provide all the skills necessary for online work. Of course, it must be borne in mind
that any additional effort and adaptation to market conditions and requirements implies leaving the comfort zone, all
for the purpose of self-improvement. Today, the border is visibly shifting from human work, measured by years of
formal education, to the competencies and skills that people acquire and develop during their lives, which is known
as lifelong learning. In the digital economy, the education system has a very important role, bearing in mind that it is
the backbone of human capital development. The success in the market of almost every individual, his work
dynamics and positioning in competitive business conditions, mainly depends on the knowledge at his disposal and
the ways in which this knowledge can be directed towards solving many problems. As the digital sector is
synergistically connected with information and communication technologies, it is clear that it is the last level of
development of economic systems of almost all countries, and represents the most famous form (both scientists and
„ordinary“ people) and the material basis of modern technologies.
The aim of this paper is, by studying the literature and comparative method, to determine whether acquiring
education through formal education systems is sufficient to participate in the digital or gig economy, or whether it is
necessary to focus on non-formal education systems and skills acquisition in practice. The author of the paper starts
from the assumption that the implementation of Industry 4.0 goes into all spheres of human life, which changes the
individual's attitude towards life, development and education.
