PREVALENCE OF PATIENTS ON INSULIN THERAPY IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF STIP IN THE PERIOD FROM 2016-2019

Chronic metabolic disorder diabetes mellitus is a rapidly growing global problem with enormous social,
health and economic consequences. It is estimated that in 2010 there were 285 million people globally
(approximately 6.4% of the adult population) suffering from this disease. That number is estimated to rise to 430
million in the absence of better control or treatment. Population aging and obesity are the two main reasons for the
increase. Furthermore, it has been shown that almost 50% of alleged diabetics are not diagnosed until 10 years after
the onset of the disease, hence the true prevalence of global diabetes must be astronomically high. In the case of type
1 diabetes, insulin therapy is vital to replace insulin that the body does not produce. People with type 2 diabetes or
gestational diabetes need insulin therapy if other treatments have not been able to keep their blood glucose levels in
the desired range. Insulin therapy helps prevent the complications of diabetes by keeping sugar in the target range.
