Abstract

Arrhythmia is any occurrence of any heart rhythm other than normal sinus rhythm. Heart rhythm disorders are the result of disorders in the generation of impulses, their conduction and/or both. Dealing with arrhythmias is a professional, practical and everyday challenge for nurses. Teamwork, communication and collaboration in coronary intensive care units are needed to improve patient outcomes.
Aim: The main purpose of the paper is to show the incidence of performed catheter ablations in patients divided according to diagnosis, age and sex, performed at the PHI "University Clinic for Cardiology" in Skopje during a period of three consecutive years.
Materials and methods: Patient data were taken from PHI "University Clinic for Cardiology" Skopje, retrogradely over a period of three years, from 2021 2023.
Results: In 2021, a total of 49 catheter ablations were performed, on 23 men and 26 women, with an average age of 49.77 years. The most common arrhythmia for catheter ablation was supraventricular arrhythmia. In 2022, a total of 69 catheter ablations were performed, on 35 men and 34 women, with an average age of 52.88 years, with the most common arrhythmia being atrial fibrillation/flutter. And as of October 2023, a total of 29 catheter ablations were performed, on 12 men and 17 women, with an average age of 48.27 years, again the most common arrhythmia atrial fibrillation/flutter.
Conclusion: According to our results, catheter ablations are performed more often in patients with atrial fibrillation/flutter and more often in females.
