Abstract

Lumbar disc herniation is a common medical condition that affects millions of people worldwide. While surgical interventions and pharmacological treatments often serve as conventional avenues for managing lumbar disc herniation, these options come with their drawbacks. Physiotherapy can be particularly helpful during the subacute phase of a lumbar disc herniation, where the condition has stabilized to some extent, but functional impairment and pain persist. It is at this stage that movement-based therapies can significantly help promote tissue healing, reduce muscle spasm and improve postural habits, without the risks associated with surgical or pharmacological interventions. The aim of the research is to monitor the effect of applied kinesitherapeutic agents on functional disorders in patients with lumbar disc herniation. Material and methods: In the study, 15 patients with lumbar disc herniation in the subacute phase who agreed to home kinesitherapeutic treatment were followed for a period of 1 month. The effect of the application of kinesitherapeutic agents on the restoration of painful functional movement patterns, relief of pain in the lower back, back, hips and legs, reduction of muscle spasm, restoration of the function of the lumbar spine and sacroiliac joint, improvement of lower body mobility, maintaining neurological adaptation to reduce the sensation of pain, preventing future pain attacks and reducing movement-related fear. Attached are: postisometric relaxation of m. erector spinae, m.qudratus lumborum and m.iliopsoas, segmental massage, positional treatment, exercises to strengthen weak muscles, relaxation, extension therapy and active exercises from different starting positions. Results: The study shows that applied kinesitherapy with a duration of 1 month has a positive effect (p<0.001), which reduces pain and muscle tone, improves spine mobility and prevents relapses, exacerbations and peripheral neurological symptoms. Conclusion: Kinesitherapeutic means and their long-term implementation have a positive effect in patients with lumbar disc herniation, which leads to the correction of the modern work style of the patients.
