Abstract

The coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, is a disease that has spread across the planet in the shortest
possible time. Similar to the flu, some of its most common complications affect the lungs, which sometimes requires
complex and continuous treatment. Many of the patients who recover from the COVID-19 infection develop
complications and lasting physical aftereffects. The formed Post-COVID syndrome requires additional research and
long-term rehabilitation to support the recovery after hospitalization. Competent and appropriate rehabilitation is
necessary to overcome the symptoms and to improve the functional capacity. The rehabilitation programs for
patients who have survived the coronavirus in balneosanatoriums and medical and spa centers have been developed
on the basis of the recommendations of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria. These programs in the
spas are aimed at restoring and strengthening the immunity and at recovery of the internal organs functioning and
the physical and neuropsychological capacity. The purpose of this paper is to propose tools within the scope of the
physical therapy as well as effective methods to be applied in complex rehabilitation programs, included in the
outpatient balneosanatorial treatment in order to reduce the lasting effects of the COVID-19 survivors. Material and
method: An overview analysis of scientific literary sources was carried out, regarding methods and means of
rehabilitation that are included in the rehabilitation programs aimed at improving the respiratory functions, relieving
dyspnea, improving endurance to physical efforts, reducing anxiety and depression, improving the quality of life.
The wonderful conditions for rehabilitation in balneosanatoriums and medical and spa centers, in addition to the
physical factors - natural and reshaped, support the recovery of patients – Post-COVID-19 survivors.
