Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the most dangerous challenges this world has faced in our lifetime. In
the absence of adequate treatment, a total lockdown and isolation have been imposed since early 2020 to avoid the
chain transmission of the coronavirus in humans. The viral invasion caused serious disruptions in health, economic,
social and educational aspects. The educational institutes were closed during the pandemic period and the traditional
teaching process was shifted to a distance form. This measure undertaken by the governments of the various
countries afforded the possibility to compensate for the educational losses. The distance form of learning, also called
"online" learning, has prompted the necessity of technological equipment and adaptation of the learning material.
The imposed "online" education during the pandemic period allowed the educational process to continue without
announcing zero academic years. Along with the multiple advantages, the "online" learning has created a number of
risks for those participating in it: a lengthy stay in front of monitors; lack of ergonomics in the working
environment; physical inactivity; impact on the circadian rhythm, etc. The fact that the excessive use of
technological facilities negatively affects the physical, mental, emotional and social health is not unknown. The
enforced social isolation has affected the behavioral and mental health of society. During the online-based training,
all trainees significantly reduced their physical activity. The social relationships were severely affected, the sports
and cultural activities were ceased, this in turn generating emotional stress and fear. The purpose of this article is to
describe the impact of online learning on education as well as on the health of learners. Material and methods:
Through a documentary method, a study was carried out and literary and Internet sources were analyzed for the
impact of the distance learning on the physical and mental health of students.
