Abstract

The subject of the article is the verb imam mainly as an auxiliary. The changes in the position of the verb imam in the history of the Bulgarian language are interesting. It functions both as a singular verb and as an auxiliary verb. The verb imam served to form the future tense during the Old Bulgarian period, along with other verbs such as I want, I start, etc. During the Middle Bulgarian period it was imposed over the constructions with a want, but subsequently its use as an auxiliary for the formation of future time gradually gave way. At the present stage of language development it is not used as an auxiliary in the same function. Today there are some constructions in colloquial speech in which the verb imam participates.

The article considers the verb imam as an aid in the formation of future tense.
