Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is proving to be one of the greatest challenges in modern history. The global
nature of the world economy, which is based on the free movement of people between different countries, intensive
economic, transport links and tourism contribute to the spread of the infection around the world. In this situation,
medical facilities should create an organization for hospitalization of patients with COVID-19, as well as conditions
for providing the necessary hospital treatment for patients with other infectious and non-infectious diseases. A basic
requirement for all structures is strict compliance with anti-epidemic measures and preventing the occurrence of
infections related to medical care.
Due to the fact that nosocomial infections do not exist at the time of hospitalization, but develop subsequently, they
lead to adverse consequences affecting patients, medical staff and individual structures of medical institutions.
Significant losses of an economic, social and moral nature are caused, sufferers arise, treatment becomes more
expensive, and the quality of life of patients and their families decreases. The hospital stay is prolonged, the
indicators for the effectiveness of the bed base are violated, as well as for achieving a positive final result of the
treatment.
This specific group of infections is caused by a variety of microflora - from species with pathogenic properties to
representatives of the own, resident bacterial flora, including external microorganisms found in the hospital
environment.
This paper examines the frequency of healthcare-associated infections in the context of a coronavirus infection
pandemic. Their etiological and clinical structure was studied in medical facilities for hospital care in 2021. Data
were used from the automated information system of the National Center for Public Health and Analyzes (NCPHA),
reports on registered HAIs of the Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) - Ruse and own observations. A documentary
method was mainly used, and the data were processed statistically through mathematical and graphic analysis.
