Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is chronic and most common metabolic disorder. The prevalence of diabetes is increasing. According to data from 2019, it is estimated that 463 million people worldwide live with this condition, and that by 2030, 578 million, or by 2045, 700 million people will be affected worldwide. Around 40% to 60% of non-traumatic lower limb amputations in the world are caused by diabetic complications, while 80% of these amputations are accompanied by a diabetic foot ulcer. Amputations caused by diabetes have a high mortality rate with a five-year survival rate of 41% to 48%. Even in patients with minor amputations, the five-year survival rate is only 59%. The aim of the research is to examine the impact of health care on the outcome of treatment of patients with diabetic foot. The study is prospective-descriptive, includes 40 patients who visited the diabetes clinic of the Public institution Sarajevo Canton Health Center. The anonymous survey was conducted using a specially created questionnaire created as a result of a literature search and existing similar questionnaires. Patients are educated on the importance of proper foot care and are satisfied with the health care provided. Diabetic foot ulcers are among the most common complications of patients with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus. They are usually the result of poor glycemic control, underlying neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, or poor foot care
