Abstract

Since the time of the Renaissance, Bulgarians have great faith in education and in the idea that it regenerates a person mentally and morally. That is why education was one of the main functions in the life of Bulgarians. After the Liberation, education in Bulgaria became fully democratic, accessible to the poor and the rich, it was the same for all, suitable for all religious and national minorities in the country, which was due to the great tolerance of the Bulgarians towards foreigners at that time. Bulgarian education is one of the main foundations on which the young, newly liberated country stands in its development. Its support and development became the main priority of all Bulgarian governments and the results of this activity quickly gave excellent visible results. The teachers involved in the educational process are of both sexes - almost equally men and women, which is a revolutionary and evolutionary moment for Bulgarian society. They received their education abroad, returned to their homeland and have a mission to bring the light of knowledge and open eyes. This article will examine the main stages in the development of Bulgarian post-liberation education and its harmonization with the best European and world practices. The subject of the article is tracking and analysis of the new educational structure and the mass of Bulgarians towards literacy and education. The purpose of the text is to highlight the factors, personalities and main elements of the educational upsurge, which led to a radical qualitative leap of modern Bulgarians in the period 1878-1944.
