Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to show the type, intensity and number of Therapeutic Physical Modalities (TPM) that were applied to the users of the Old People's Home "Podgorica" in the period from February 7, 2023 until May 31, 2023, as well as for which health problems the specific TPM was applied. In the Old People's Home "Podgorica" in the period from February 7, 2023 by May 31, 2023, there were 135 users, of which 93 (68.9%) were female, and 42 (31.1%) were male. In the mentioned period, 53 (39.2%) users were examined, and of that number, physical therapy was indicated for 42 users (31.1% of the total number of users or 79.2% of the number of users examined).
In the mentioned period, physiotherapists applied 1294 TPM, namely: 276 in February, 285 in March, 306 in April and 427 in May. In February 2023, kinesitherapy was applied the most (83), in March 2023, kinesitherapy (75), as well as in April 2023 (64), while in May 2023, Interferential Therapy were applied the most (103). Of the 12 users from February, 7 of them (58.3%) continued physical therapy in March. Of the 21 users from March, 14 of them (66.6%) continued physical therapy in April. Of the 17 users from April, 8 of them (47%) continued physical therapy in May. Of the 25 users from May, 15 (60%) continued physical therapy in June. On average, 58% of users need to continue using therapeutic physical modalities.
Geriatric physical therapy helps older adults regain the muscle strength, balance, and coordination needed to improve their walking ability, overall mobility, and level of functioning, as well as their independence to perform daily tasks. TPM contribute to the reduction of pain caused by various etiologies, regardless of the age of the person.
It is recommended to apply TPM for a minimum duration of 20 therapeutic days, taking into account the guidelines for the organization of the physiotherapist's working environment, adjusting the organization and ergonomics of the physiotherapist's workplace.
