Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to show the impact of breathing exercises on the chest circumference of users of the Nursing Home "Podgorica". The program of breathing exercises began to be implemented on July 24, 2023.
Methodology: In the Nursing Home "Podgorica" in the period from July 24,2023. until November 10, 2023, an average of 18 users performed daily breathing exercises (in a sitting and standing position) with physiotherapists. The first measurement of the "inspiration-expiration" ratio in five randomly selected users was performed on August 7, 2023, while the second measurement was performed on November 7, 2023. The average age of female users was 77.67 years, and 82.56 years for male users. The average age of users of both sexes was 80.11 years.
Results: Measurement of the "inspiration-expiration" ratio was performed in five randomly selected users, 3 (60%) women and 2 (40%) men. The difference between the second and first measurement was an average of 1.1 cm in favor of an increased "inspiration-expiration" ratio, which indicates that the user's chest volume increased by that much on average after three months of performing breathing exercises with physiotherapists.
Conclusions: Exercising significantly increases the body's capacity, on the one hand economization of physiological processes, and on the other hand, in the increased possibilities of the organism in mobilization physiological processes to the highest extent. In terms of health, the basic values of physical exercise are in the general strengthening of the organism, greater general resistance of the organism and especially in the adoption of desirable hygiene habits. When exercise is carried out regularly and systematically, it has a positive effect on certain organic systems, and through them on psychological processes.
