Abstract

The joint is one of the most frequently injured joints in sports and represents a significant problem for athletes. The ligaments that stabilize the ankle joint determine its biomechanics - the changes that result from various sports-related injuries. Acute ankle injuries are among the most common injuries in athletes and are generally treated conservatively, with an emphasis on secondary prevention to reduce the risk of future injury and progression to chronic joint instability. Repetitive ankle joint injuries in athletes can cause chronic instability of the joint, which includes both mechanical laxity of the ligament and functional changes. Appropriate initial treatment, rehabilitation, and secondary prevention of ankle injury can limit the amount of lost playing time and avoid negative long-term consequences (eg, osteochondral lesions, arthritis). On the other hand, major ankle injuries herald a worse prognosis and longer recovery. These injuries usually require surgical stabilization of the joint. Ankle injuries are not one-off injuries, and a common consequence is the development of chronic ankle instability, a condition characterized by repeated sprains or repeated loosening (or both) of the ankle joint. Research objective: To assess the effect of preventive measures for ankle joint injuries in athletes. Material and method: A systematic review of the literature that follows the relevant database , Medline, PabMed, Google Scholar, Research Gate, which is coordinated within the framework of the Prisma system. Results: Through a scientific review of the literature, results were presented on the importance and productivity of ankle joint injury prevention in athletes. Effectiveness has been proven through education and recommendations, regular application of exercises and monitoring of athletes. Conclusion: Clinical management of ankle injury in athletes should include comprehensive assessment and treatment plans. Not all ankle injuries are the same and it is important that each athlete has an individualized treatment plan. Due to the high incidence of recurrent ankle sprains, emphasis must be placed on preventing re-injury with a safe return to sports activities.
