Abstract

Background The activity of the Clinic of Urology is based on the rules of good medical practice and is in accordance with the medical standards of "UROLOGY". (1)

Aim The aim of the Clinic of Urology is to provide highly specialized and high quality inpatient and consultative health care to all patients, in a timely manner and in sufficient volume. This is done by applying the most modern methods for diagnosis, follow-up and prevention of patients. (2)

Materials and Methods The clinic usually treats a severe contingent of patients in need of planned and emergency operations and it is preferred for treatment not only by patients from the region, but also from all over the country.

Cystectomies are performed with all types of urine derivations (including orthotopic bladder, one of the most complex operations in operative urology), retroperitoneal lymph dissections, plastic-reconstructive operations, radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer and others. (3)

Results This analysis examines the data for a three-year period (2021-2024) focused on the following main indicators:

  • Usability of beds
  • Turnover of beds
  • Average stay of one patient. The specific values are shown in Table 2.

The number of planned beds traced for the period 2016-2018 remained almost unchanged in 2016 and 2018, and in 2017 with a tendency to decrease by nearly 5000 beds.

The number of vacancies in 2016 was the highest, and in 2017 significantly declined. This logically affects the average annual usability of beds, which in 2016 was the highest and significantly declined in 2017.

Conclusions Establishing a very good organization of work in the hospital, the proper allocation of responsibilities for medical activities among all medical professionals, continuous training and qualification.
