Abstract

The road safety system is a complex and dynamic system which, by engaging all elements and structures, aims to prevent traffic accidents and reduce the effects of traffic accidents. Road safety is monitored and analyzed using certain indicators, based on the values of which road safety is evaluated. Evaluation of road safety can be done using indicators related to traffic accidents (number and consequences of traffic accidents and traffic violations). The values of indicators are monitored for the time period or for the spatial area. The selection and analysis of indicators is very important from the aspect of optimal presentation of the current state of road safety and the possibility of defining measures and activities to improve the current state. In order to define prevention measures, and thus reduce the effects of traffic accidents, it is necessary to continuously monitor and analyze the state. The analysis can be performed by various methods and techniques. The aim of the research is the statistical assessment of road safety in the Republic of Serbia using the statistical package SPSS 19.0. SPSS Statistical Package is a software package used for statistical analysis. It is applicable in various fields, and can also be used in the analysis of road safety. For the purposes of the research, the number of traffic accidents and their consequences and the number of traffic violations were used. After the presentation of the results, a discussion of the results and certain conclusions were given
